Environmental impact

Why we do it

Since Bao Living was founded, reducing the environmental impact of the construction industry and improving affordability have been our two main goals. We achieve these by designing and marketing products that break away from traditional building methods and take a radically more sustainable approach. Here's how our first product, the Smart Adaptable Module (SAM), brings this mission to life:

This is how SAM contributes to a greener world:

Dismountable modular installation

SAM is installed 98% glue-free and disassembled by screws, which allows the reuse of the cabinet modules in other projects.

Our buy-back program gives back up to 10% of the purchase value on the joinery and up to 30% on the plumbing when the used materials are returned. For more info on this, please visit our FAQ.

Circular use of materials

The SAM structure consists of wood chip panels and circular materials that reuse waste streams. This lowers carbon emissions, promotes circular construction with disassembly and recycling, and extends the life of materials, thus SAM minimizes waste and gives value to end-of-life materials.

Prefabrication

SAMs are maximally prefabricated in a controlled, automated factory, which reduces waste and improves recycling rates. Because the modules are delivered turnkey, we not only reduce the amount of transportation to and from the construction site, but also drastically reduce waste on the site itself. This results in completion three months faster on average than traditional construction methods.

More compact living solutions

SAM's design promotes efficient use of space, which is crucial in densely populated urban environments. With an average increase of 20% more living space through smart layout and integrated features, SAM replaces partitions and storage spaces with units with built-in storage and other amenities.

This leads to more efficient use of space, reducing the carbon footprint per person for living.

Will you plant with us?

At Bao Living, we like to give the world more green. To offset CO₂ emissions from the production and installation of our SAMs, since 2020 we have been planting with GoForest trees. Our manufacturing partners are doubling these efforts, making SAM even a CO₂-negative product! Curious about the projects we have already supported? Then be sure to check out the Bao Living impact dashboard!

In conclusion

Based on our calculations, one installed SAM can save up to 5.5 tons of CO₂ compared to traditional installation methods! To learn more about these sustainability benefits, we encourage you to read the following two blog posts:
